CAROLINA LARA, PSYCHOLOGIST AND CLINICAL SEXOLOGIST

 

I have been a psychologist for over 17 years, and a member of the Quebec Order of Psychologists since 2011. I have a university degree in Psychology, a Master's degree in Clinical Sexology from the University of Quebec in Montreal, and a Master's degree in Public Administration. I worked for 11 years in the Quebec public health system, notably as a mental health manager in the health and social services network. For several years, I was also able to expand my practice as a clinician in private practice.

 

As a member of the national union of clinical sexologists, I now practice in Pau, France, as a psychologist and clinical sexologist.

 

As a psychologist, I have experience with different types of clients, including adolescents, couples, people with intellectual disabilities, autistic people, and immigrants. In addition, my background as a manager allows me to have a particular understanding of mental health and the underlying issues in organizations, such as burnout, anxiety, adjustment disorders, etc.

 

 

APPROACH

 

In my practice, I use behavioral, cognitive and emotional therapies (BCAT).

These therapies, based on scientific research, act on three levels: behaviors, cognitions (thoughts) and emotions. The goal is to act on one or more of these three variables to obtain a beneficial change for the patient.

 

The effectiveness of these therapies has been widely demonstrated for anxiety and depressive disorders, in most psychiatric disorders, as well as in the field of behavioral medicine.

 

Finally, by using a solution and alternative-focused approach, I am able to help people find concrete tools to improve their situation and encourage decision making. In the process of change, the patient has an active role in the therapeutic process by being the main actor.
